With an opening atop the Niagara Falls Fire Department, mayor Paul Dyster told the council on Monday that he's thinking of putting in an interim chief.

According to an official in Dyster's administration, the city has gotten about two dozen applications for the post and those resumes are being vetted.

Dyster said he's interested in adding an interim chief because he's in the final year of his term, and can't offer any security.

He also noted that many of the crew chiefs don't show interest in the job because they'd have to take a pay cut.
