With the weather finally breaking, the Coast Guard is conducting its annual National Safe Boating Week through Friday. According to stats from the Coast Guard, 700 people die each year in boating-related accidents in the U.S. and about 70 percent of these are fatalities caused by drowning.
New York state was identified with one of the highest number of accidents and fatalities in 2009.
The Coast Guard encourages boaters to take a safety course.
