Air Force veteran Donald J. Thompson will be honored as the grand marshall at today's Lockport Memorial Day parade.

Thompson served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1973 and pulled three tours of duty in Vietnam. He's also a life member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and VVA, serving as past commander or president for each.

The festivities started at 8 a.m. when the procession gathers at the American Legion, with a number of wreath-laying ceremonies throughout the city. A formal memorial service is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at Colds Spring Cemetery. The parade will start at 1 p.m. down East Avenue to the courthouse.

A celebration will follow at the American Legion.
