Sinkhole on South Transit caused by sewers

City of Lockport officials think a faulty sewer line was to blame for a sinkhole that collapsed along South Transit Streetr on Tuesday.

That hole was 20 feet deep and nealy a dozen feet wide and will close the stretch of road from Gaffney Road to Lincoln Avenue for the next few days.

City and state officials are rushing to get the busy road back open for traffic -- cars will be detoured to either Summit Street, Gaffney Road or Route 31.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
