After animal advocates worked feverishly to remove baby seagulls from the Lockport Mall site on Thursday, the deomolition of the project resumed.

Members of Wild Kritters of Niagara and the Lakeview Animal Sanctuary arrived early on Thursday to help rescue the birds, who are federally protected species.

That's in contrast to the scene on Wednesday when state and county police shut the work site down after reports that more than 100 baby seagulls had been killed on the project, although there's been no confirmation on that number.

No charges have been filed against the construction workers, although the state's DEC has said it could become involved if needed.
