Staffing levels won't keep Olcott Beach closed any longer. The State Legislature has approved a bill that will allow the ownership of the beachfront and terraced recreational area at Olcott Beach to be transferred from Niagara County to the Town of Newfane. Both local governments are seeking state approval for the transfer.

Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman John Ceretto pushed for the measure, which will allow the town to manage the staff. Until Governor Cuomo signs the legislation into law and the land transfer is finalized, the town will lease the property in question from the County and manage it. The one-year lease has already been approved by town and county officials.

The transfer in does not include other areas of Krull Park, such as the picnic pavilions, sports fields, playground areas.
