At one point, it was simply a longshot. But now, State Sen. George Maziarz thinks the smart money's on highwire walker Nik Wallenda getting a chance to walk above the Horseshoe Falls, and across an international border in the process. Maziarz said on Tuesday that Niagara Falls (Ont.) mayor Jim Diodati has recently endorsed the project, and with Diodati's connections on the Niagara Parks Commission, he thinks the stunt might come to fruition.
The 2,200-foot trip would be the first of its kind, as other daredevils have done the walk downstream. The last pre-approved high-wire trip over the raging waters was done in 1910. According to Maziarz, chances are good the measure will pass on all sides.
