The Lockport Common Council appears poised to approve a contract next week that will get the city out of the garbage business.

Residents will pay for disposal based on the size of the cart they choose, with costs starting at about $125 a year for the small tote and rising up to $187 a year for a large one.

Also, the move will give residents curbside recycling pickup. Common Council President Richelle Pasceri said the system allows the city to cut costs while still providing quality service to residents.
