The families of two teens killed in a car crash rejected a defense effort to win a plea deal for the driver.
After a 40-minute meeting with the District Attorney they said they won't soften their consent and allow John Schmitz, Jr. to serve just over a year in jail. The 19-year-old is under indictment on two counts of second degree manslaughter.
19-year-old Jeremy Campbell of Youngstown and 17-year-old Taylor Messing of Niagara Falls, who were in the back seat, both died in the crash. Reports say the car was travelling at speeds upwards of 113 miles per hour at the time of the accident.
