Niagara Falls police say they've wrapped up the investigation into the death of a bicyclist and have ruled it an accident.

Police say 44-year-old Kevin Johnson died last Friday after he rode his bicycle into an uncovered sewer catch basin on 17th Street.

Investigators were trying to figure out why the large metal plate that was supposed to be covering the hole was not in place.

There were cones around the area, but the streetlight was out when Johnson drove into the hole, smashing his forehead on the pavement.

Family members have hired an investigator, who was on the scene Monday.
