A longtime Niagara Falls politician says the challenges against petitions for the city's upcoming races for mayor and the city council could be racially motivated.

The County Board of Elections has said it will review those challenges soon, but County Legislator Renae Kimble said the city's Democratic chairman might have had racial motivation in trying to block the candidacies of Carnell Burch, Robert Anderson, Jr. and mayoral candidate Norton Douglas.

In a statement on Thursday, Kimble said she plans to reach out to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and U.S. senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand on the issue.
