The Common Council in the City of Lockport has passed on a new local law governing refuse and recycling collection. The law's passage has extended the deadline for residental property owners to turn in their refuse cart orders by a week. Residents now have until August 24th to turn in their post-card sized surveys regarding which sized totes they need. Property owners are encouraged to get them in the mail by Saturday, for the postmark, but they can place their orders online at http://www.curbsidelockport.com/cartselection. Lewiston based Modern Disposal will start garbage collection between late September and early October, but a definitive date is still not known as of now. The city of Lockport is not mandating recycling, leaving the frequency of recycling to the property owner's discretion.

Sizing and Pricing for the Garbage Totes

Single-family homes may select from any of the options listed below.
Double-family homes may select two sizes for tenants.
Triple-family homes will only be allowed three 95 gallon carts and four family units will be allowed four carts.

Residents that do not respond to a survey to select their cart size will default to one 96-gallon cart (single family), two-96 gallon carts (double family) and three 96-gallon carts (triple family) parcels.

The City expects the following price range for weekly collection from each variable sized refuse cart selection, which also includes unlimited every-other-week recycling collection and monthly bulk item collection. Actual costs will be determined once all selections are made.

$112 - $135 per year for a 35-gallon refuse cart
- 3 full, tall kitchen trash bags will fit

$140 - $162 per year for a 64-gallon refuse cart
- 4-6 full, tall kitchen trash bags will fit

$170 - $195 per year for a single 96-gallon refuse cart
- 5-7 full, tall kitchen trash bags will fit

approx. $240 per year for two 96-gallon refuse carts

approx. $300 per year for three 96-gallon refuse carts

approx. $345 per year for four 96-gallon refuse carts
