As expected, the Niagara County Legislature passed an extension on the Medicaid penny on Monday.
That means two more years for county residents at the current eight percent sales tax rate. If there was a surprise it's that four of the 16 legislators present voted no on the measure.
All of the $28 million the penny will bring in is applied to Medicaid.
If the measure had not been approved, the county would have have been forced to raise property taxes 40 percent.
