While Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster announced Monday he's behind the expansion of USA Niagara Development Corporation's footprint in downtown Niagara Falls, another former politician says the mayor shouldn't be taking any credit for the announcement.
During a press conference on Monday, Dyster said he asked the board of directors to expand the development district north to include the Aquarium of Niagara and the Discovery Center in Niagara Falls State Park.
But former County Lawmaker Vince Sandonato sent out a statement to the media saying he took great offense to someone trying to take credit for ideas that were not their own and asked Dyster to retract his statements.
Sandonato said similar legislation was introduced by Sen. Mark Grisanti and Assemblyman John Ceretto, but got little support from the mayor's office.
Dyster's announcement comes after a member of the Empire State Development Corporation said the expansion could be done without needing the approval of the state legislature.
