Residents who think hydrofracking wastewater could prove the next in a long line of environmental disasters packed the Niagara Falls Water Board meeting on Thursday.

Members of the group W-N-Y Drilling Defense were among those on hand to voice their concern over the possibility that the city will start treating what's referred to as fracking fluid.

The Falls facility on Buffalo Avenue is one of the nation's largest, designed to handle a high chemical workload because of the once-booming industrial corridor in the city.

The state is expected to make a decision on whether or not to lift the ban on horizontal, high-volume hydraulic fracturing within the next few months.
