What's a longtime city of Lockport landmark worth? About 500 bucks, according to a local scrap yard.

The county will start demolition of the old Flintkote tower on Mill Street today with a ceremony that's slated to start at 10 a.m.

Council president Richelle Pasceri and Mayor Michael Tucker will be among those on hand as the controversial tower comes down.

The Flintkote site, an industrial plant that was abandoned by a former manufacturer, is a Brownfield set to be rehabilitated by the state's DEC. It's on the state Superfund list. The county will get 500 dollars for the leftover materials.
