Some local residents got to see quite the sight last night. There were reports of Northern Lights sightings in Arkansas, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.
The National Weather Service says the sun had an event called a Coronal Mass Ejection also known as a solar wind. It caused the rare light show described as a red glow in the northern sky.
The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are usually seen in Canada and rarely appear anywhere south of Minnesota.
