Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour announced at a press conference Monday that two suspects believed to be responsible for a house explosion last July in the Town of Niagara are in custody.
They are accused of breaking a gas line while stealing copper from a vacant house resulting in the explosion some 16 to 18 hours later. A tip resulted in the arrest of Eric Waterstram, 37, of Niagara Falls and Crystal Knepp, 28, of Newfane.
Both are charged with second-degree burglary and criminal mischief, both felony counts and also with petit larceny. Voutour said Monday the pair took the copper to a local scrap yard.
Waterstram's bail was set at $25,000 and Knepp's at $10,000, and both are scheduled to appear in Town of Niagara Court on Nov. 3.
