Making an appearance in Western New York on Monday, Sen. Chuck Schumer said he's fighting to expand the NEXUS program that helps travelers get across the border easier.
Schumer said about 40,000 Western New Yorkers have the NEXUS card, but he thinks one of the reasons more people don't purchase them is because you need to go to the Whirlpool Bridge to do so.
And the fewer people that cross quickly can hold up business transactions.
Speaking beneath the Peace Bridge, Schumer said he's proposing that mobile Nexus centers be built where drivers can quickly get the cards. He said the centers can be funded by the increase in applications, which cost $100 dollars.
