A Niagara Falls man who killed a man during a card game has taken a plea deal, meaning he can only face up to eight years in jail.
Wilbert Hayes III of Pierce Avenue insisted it was self-defense when he killed Donald Nix back in March.
According to prosecutors, Nix pulled a knife out, but Hayes got the knife away from Nix, then stabbed him to death.
Hayes took the plea deal because if the case had gone to trial, he could have spent 25 years in jail. He pleaded guilty to a single count of second-degree manslaughter.
