We reported earlier this week that a deal to turn a Canal Street property into the corporate home of the Lockport Cave & Underground Boat Tour fell apart.
We talked with Chuck Bell of the Greater Lockport Development Corporation, who explained that a proposal from the tour's ownership group was originally consistent with the what the GLDC is hoping to accomplish on the street, but there are other groups looking to purchase the property.
When Hydraulic Race Company, which owns the cave tour, told the City of Lockport it wasn't interesting in purchasing the property, but still had designs on leasing it, Bell said it was a chance to re-open it to others. Bell said the parcel is pivotal to the city's downtown success.
He also said the GLDC will revisit all the possibilities for the location soon.
