Niagara Falls used city funds to help start a pair of downtown events. Now, city officials say it's time to see if those events can stand on their own.
City Council Chair Sam Fruscione announced Thursday a five-year plan to wean the the Hard Rock Cafe summer concert series and the Niagara Falls Blues Festival from public funding. Currently, the Hard Rock series gets $180,000 a year from the city while the group that organizes the blues festival gets about $30,000.
To start the process, the funding for each group will be cut by about 20 percent each year until they're self-standing.
