Major news on the medical front came out of our area yesterday as Roswell Park Cancer Institute announced the results of a clinical study of a vaccine that doctors say may go as far in helping to cure cancer and prevent relapse.
That study was even approved by the Food and Drug Administration according to Dr. Christopher Choi, the Director of the Therapeutic Cell Production Facility.
The vaccine is designed to help after cells are taken out of a cancer patient. Doctors can then train those cells to recognize cancer cells as bad for the body.
The treated cells will inserted back into the patient and then will be able to fight the cancer. They're planning to do all this with unique and state-of-the-art equipment housed right at Roswell Park.
