N-W School District facing tough decisions

Here's the problem the Niagara-Wheatfield school district is suffering through.

Even if the district gets rid of 86 jobs, it will still need to raise taxes by nine percent to make up a budget shortfall for next year.

Superintendant Carl Militello resigned from his post recently and the rest of the administration has been forced to pick up the pieces, looking at how to fix a total deficit of $8.3 million.

If the district decided to not lay anyone off, the tax levy increase would be more than 30 percent to the community.
