The State Senate passed legislation on Tuesday that would authorize Niagara County to prohibit level 2 and 3 sex offenders from being within 1,500 feet of any school grounds or child care facility.
The bill is sponsored by George Maziarz and it addresses concerns raised about the safety of children in both the school and day care setting.
Currently, laws in New York only restrict individuals that are classified as level three sex offenders from knowingly entering upon school grounds. These laws do not address level two sex offenders.
This bill is being sent to the Assembly.
