Buffalo's Business First has released a list of the most well-paid educators in the Western New York area and the numbers are startling.
According to the magazine more than 800 administrators and teachers earned six-figure salaries from our public school districts last year.
Locally, Starpoint's superintendent, C. Douglas Whelan, is second on the list with compensation last year at $189,760.
The number in Lockport is 14 as that many teachers and administrators top the 100,000-dollar mark , led by Michelle Bradley who finished the year at more than $170,000.
WIlson has four, Starpoint has nine, Niagara-Wheatfield has six, Barker has three and Roy-Hart just one, outgoing superintendent Kevin MacDonald.
Niagara Falls leads the county with 50 teachers and administrators over that threshold.
The new issue of Business First has a complete list ... The rankings are confined to cash compensation in the 2011-2012 academic year. They do not account for the cost of pensions, health insurance or other benefits, but may include lump-sum payments for unused sick leave or vacation.
