We're barely into June, but the first beach closure of the year has already taken effect out in Olcott.

The county's health department announced the closure on Wednesday morning, after determining that the water is not suitable for swimming because of unsatisfactory bacteriological water quality.

According to a statement released by the department, this advisory is anticipated to remain in effect until further notice.

The Niagara County Department of Health will continue to monitor the situation closely and will reopen the beach for swimming when conditions return to a safe level.

  • Questions regarding this advisory should be directed to Ronald Gwozdek, P.E. at 716-439-7452.

  • Additional information will be posted on the Niagara County web site at www.niagaracounty.com
