A Town of Lockport woman was found dead following what authorities are calling a boating accident off the shore in Olcott.
A report from the County Sheriff's office said a homeowner on Lake Road called authorities Wednesday afternoon to report boat up against her pier.
When she went down to look at the boat, she found the woman dead inside.
That woman, police updated on Thursday, was 62-year-old Saundra Burns from the Town of Lockport.
The caller reported that the boat appeared to have a tarp on it but, upon closer inspection the caller believed the boat may be occupied.
Olcott Fire Company was also dispatched to the scene. When deputies arrived at the boat, it was discovered that the vessel had heavy damage on the front bow and the female in the boat was deceased, she was the only occupant.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office Marine Division, Criminal Investigation Bureau and Crime Scene Identification Unit all responded to the scene along with the US Coast Guard who assisted at the scene. It is unknown at this time what the boat struck and the incident remains under investigation.
The name of the victim is not being released, pending the notification of her
