A bill named for a North Tonawanda child who was abused by his father got through the state's assembly just in time on Friday.

Jay J.'s Law would allow for stricter penalties on repeat child abusers. It's named for 3-year-old Jay J. Bolvin, who suffered 11 broken bones and brain damage at the hands of his father.

The new law would charge someone with aggravated assault if they're a repeat offender, then again assaulted a child under the age of 11.

The bill was modified slightly from what passed previously in the state Senate.
