Newfane soldier Heinz dies in Texas drowning

A U.S. Army Soldier from Newfane is dead from an apparent drowning that occurred near Fort Hood, Texas.

Officials say 25-year-old Private First Class Christopher Heinz died on Sunday at Stillhouse Hollow Lake, which is 20 miles from Fort Hood.  Heinz had been stationed at the Texas base since May of last year.


According to reports, the body of Heinz was underwater for the better part of an hour before a dive team brought it to the surface ...

Officials believe there was no foul play involved in the death of Heinz, who had won numerous awards including the American Service medal, the National Defense Service medal and the Global War on Terror Service medal, 

Heinz graduated from Newfane High School in 2007.
