New test results released by the state show that Niagara County students struggled with the new standardized testing this year.

The Department of Education statistics show that numbers fell sharply here in Lockport as Roy Kelley Elementary saw the most significant drop in the city.  At that school, under nine percent were proficient in math and 29 percent in English. Those numbers were about half of the percentage last year.

In Niagara Falls, Cataract Elementary saw the biggest slide.

The statewide numbers show that only 31 percent of students met or exceeded proficiency standards in English and math this year.

Officials expected the scores to plummet because of the use of the Common Core Learning Standards Assessments.
