A Somerset man was arrested on Monday after County Sheriff's deputies were called by probation officers who said they conducted a home visit after getting a signal from a device that was being tampered with.
The officers said that 18-year-old Brandon Rutherford of Lake Road tried to remove a GPS ankle monitoring device attached to his leg.
The monitor was considered inoperable due to the damage done by Rutherford, according to probation officers. The value of the device is $2,500.
Rutherford was charged with second-degree criminal contempt and second-degree criminal mischief. Bail was set in that same amount of $2,500.
